17Mother and Daddy

Mother and Daddy were married in 1940, at a time when the world felt uncertain and plans were often made quickly.

They had intended to have a proper wedding, something larger and more formal. But when Daddy was unexpectedly granted time off, they decided not to wait. Instead, they chose what mattered most—being together—and were married at my grandparents’ home in an intimate ceremony.

Afterward, they traveled to Cuba for their honeymoon, beginning their life together with a sense of adventure.

Their story didn’t begin there, though. Four years earlier, Daddy had asked mother to marry him, and she had turned him down. She told him she was having too much fun and wasn’t ready to settle down.

She was 26 when she finally said yes—choosing him when the time felt right.

They went on to build a happy marriage—one filled with Love, hard work, laughter, and many adventures.
